hospital medicine through its SHM Research Fund. The SHM Junior
Investigator Research Grant Program, for example, supports
practice-based research in hospital medicine conducted by new
hospitalist investigators. Practice-based research improves a wide range
of topics, including transitions of care, medication reconciliation,
pharmacoeconomics, patient safety, leadership, team delivery of
healthcare, communications, and much more. In addition to growing
the body of research on hospital medicine, the program also develops new
investigators’ research skills while fostering development of mentoring
relationships with more experienced senior investigators. The proposed
practice-based research must be consistent with the vision, mission and
strategic priorities of the Society of Hospital Medicine. Please
